Copyright: Richard Paul Lohse,Fair Use
I imagine Richard Paul Lohse standing in front of his canvas sometime in the 20th century, using paint to carve out these graphic forms with red, blue, and yellow. What's so cool about this piece is how the different sections butt up against each other so cleanly; it’s like they're holding each other up. You can almost feel the artist’s hand, carefully applying each block of color, trying to get it just right. The colors he uses are so bold and pure, kinda like the de stijl guys, like Mondrian. But Lohse takes it somewhere else. There’s a playful kind of simplicity to it that draws you in. It's like he's building with color and shape, making something that feels both solid and light at the same time. It's a reminder that painting isn't just about what you see, but how you see it. It's about building something new, piece by piece, with your own hands and your own vision.
