Ellsworth Kelly made "Wild Grape" with ink on paper. It’s a simple line drawing of leaves from a wild grape vine. During the time Kelly made this drawing in the 1960’s, there was a rise in interest in nature and environmentalism. Kelly took inspiration from the natural world, focusing on the shapes and forms he saw in plants and landscapes. With its minimalist style, "Wild Grape" embodies a sense of calm and contemplation, while simultaneously bringing attention to overlooked beauty. The drawing invites us to appreciate the shapes and rhythms found in our surroundings, as well as consider our relationship with the natural world. The work is dedicated to Ted Power which suggests a personal connection, an intimate moment shared between friends in nature. It reminds us of the importance of slowing down to observe and connect with the world around us.
