Oleg Holosiy’s painting, Researchers of the Depths, is a dreamy swirl of blues and greens punctuated by bursts of light. I imagine Holosiy layering the paint, coaxing these figures out of the deep like some half-remembered myth. What were you thinking, Oleg, when you made this? Were you conjuring a primordial soup, where figures dance in search of truth, or maybe just trying to find their way? The paint is applied thinly in some areas, allowing the surface to breathe, and thickly in others, creating a tangible sense of depth. See that figure reaching out? The gesture is so open, so vulnerable, it’s like he’s inviting us to join the search. Holosiy, who died so young, left behind a body of work that feels both urgent and timeless. His paintings remind me of Kippenberger's—that same willingness to embrace chaos, to not shy away from the absurd. Artists, you know, we’re all swimming in the same ocean, lighting our torches, hoping to catch a glimpse of something real.
