László Moholy-Nagy made this painting '19', with what looks like oil on canvas. The colors, mostly straight from the tube, are so clean and crisp, you just want to dive right in, don't you? I find myself wondering, what does the number 19 mean here? It anchors the whole composition, doesn't it? It is not just about geometric forms floating in space. The texture is smooth, almost like he wanted to hide the process. I bet he used tape to get these edges so sharp! Look how the lines intersect. They seem to create a sense of depth, even though it's flat. It reminds me of El Lissitzky, another artist who was playing with geometry and space. Art is always a conversation, isn't it? A remix of ideas and feelings. Makes you wonder what Moholy-Nagy was thinking, and what conversations we're having now.
