This is "Object with blower" by Gerwald Rockenschaub and it's a room! A room made of some kind of inflatable material, all pillowy and soft, and the color is that pale, barely-there, off-white. It reminds me a bit of a bouncy castle crossed with a minimalist sculpture. The whole thing is about surface and texture, the way the light plays on those puffy squares. It’s like being inside a giant marshmallow, or maybe a cloud, if clouds were square. I love the way it changes the space, makes you rethink what a room can be. The parquet floor is a nice counterpoint to the inflatable walls. There's a playfulness to it that I really appreciate, reminiscent of some of Franz West's installations. It's art that doesn't take itself too seriously, but it's also making some pretty smart points about space, form, and our bodies in relation to them. Is it sculpture? Is it architecture? Is it just a big toy? Rockenschaub doesn't seem too concerned with giving us a straight answer.
