Stuart Davis made "Hot Still-Scape for Six Colors - 7th Avenue Style" with paint, and what strikes me first is how he’s not trying to hide the process, instead, he’s celebrating it. Look at how the colours are laid down, thick in places, flat in others, almost like cut-outs, with the red holding it all together. There’s a real joy in the physicality of the medium, isn’t there? It's like Davis is saying, “Here are my tools, here are my colors, let's make something together.” Notice that little patch of blue near the top, filled with plus signs. It’s a small detail, but it adds a whole layer of playful complexity. Davis reminds me a lot of Joan Miró, in the way they both create these visual languages that feel both deeply personal and somehow universal. Ultimately, it’s not about figuring out what it means, but about letting it move you, letting it spark something new.
