This is a piece by Gino Severini called 'The Musicians', it’s hard to know exactly when it was made, but the sharp geometric shapes and the way the figures overlap and almost vibrate against each other really sings of its time. There's a real sense of layering going on, and the colors, like that juicy pink, and the cool blues, don't sit back. They're right there, almost shouting, which gives the whole thing a playful vibe, like a jazz riff where everyone's improvising. It's not smooth, but the rough edges and how the colours pop make it exciting. There is no traditional perspective, which pushes everything to the front. Think about it, with art, there's no final answer. Severini was part of a whole gang of artists who were bouncing ideas off each other. There's echoes of Picasso and Braque in here, but Severini adds his own twist.
