Laolu Senbanjo's monochromatic work presents a complex layering of symbols and motifs, rooted in Yoruba traditions and transcending time. Dominating the composition are stylized faces marked with geometric patterns, reminiscent of traditional African body art, each line and curve carrying deep cultural meaning. These linear patterns echo through art history, from ancient Egyptian hieroglyphs to contemporary urban art. The spiral motif, present in the sun-like forms, recurs across cultures as a symbol of growth, evolution, and the cyclical nature of existence, embodying a life force. The abstracted faces, bearing simplified features, evoke a sense of primal connection. The lines and patterns seem to be etched not just on the surface but into the very essence of being, tapping into a collective memory.
