Curator: Gandolfi's "Temperance" whispers of quiet strength, doesn't it? It's so restrained, so…contained. Editor: And I find that deeply problematic, frankly. Temperance, historically, has been weaponized to control marginalized bodies. Curator: Mmm, interesting! I'm thinking, though, of the artist’s own journey; the balance of life and art. Editor: Well, consider who is being asked to be temperate! Is it the wealthy elite, or is it the working class told to suppress their desires? Curator: Touché! It's a delicate dance, understanding the artist's vision, and acknowledging the context. Editor: Indeed. Art always exists in dialogue with power. Curator: Leaving us, as viewers, stuck right in the middle of that dance.
