This is a silver skewer, wrought by John Sanders in the 18th century. At first glance, it's a simple object, yet it carries echoes of ancient symbols. The skewer, with its sharp point, evokes the spear, an ancient symbol of power and penetration. Think of the Roman legionary's *pilum*, or the lances of medieval knights—each embodies masculine force and dominance. But also consider the sacrificial knife, piercing flesh in rituals that reach back to the dawn of civilization. This act of piercing touches something primal. Perhaps it stirs deep-seated fears and desires, a collective memory of pain, sacrifice, and the assertion of control. Though seemingly mundane, this skewer is rich with cultural and historical resonance. It reminds us that even the simplest tools can carry within them the weight of ages, echoing through our subconscious.
