Curatorial notes
This photograph of a Chinese administration building at a tin company in Belinyu, was made at an unknown date, by an anonymous photographer. I love the texture of the tiled roof. The photographer really captures the granular details in the image and how the light is interacting with the roof, giving a sense of the age of the building. A big pile of sticks lies in the foreground, really bringing a sense of depth to the image. The piles seem naturally formed, not perfectly stacked. It's the kind of detail that adds so much life to a photo like this. It's so good, I think this could almost be a painting! Photographs like this one are a reminder that art is everywhere; you just have to look. Much like the work of Bernd and Hilla Becher, this work invites the viewer to reflect on the beauty of everyday objects and places. It's a testament to the idea that beauty and interest can be found in the most unexpected corners.
