This is Arthur Wegg's 'Candlestick', we're not sure exactly when it was made, but it's done with pencil and watercolour. I think of this piece as a celebration of quiet observation and craft. The way Wegg uses delicate watercolour washes, and really precise pencil lines, it's like he's trying to capture the essence of light and form. Look at the base of the candlestick, the way it curves and swirls - it's so art nouveau! I wonder if he was inspired by the designs of that time. There's something so tender about the way he's depicted this everyday object. It reminds me a bit of Giorgio Morandi's still life paintings, where he transformed simple bottles into something meditative and profound. For Wegg, it's this candlestick, for Morandi, it was a bottle. It's all about looking closely, and finding the beauty in the ordinary.
