Antony Gormley made "Another Place", with cast iron figures set against the sky and sea. It's an interesting process, to literally cast a human form, and then set it against the natural world. Looking at the surface, the figures are rough, like the texture of the sand, and the grey color seems to blend into the water. The bodies have a kind of stillness. I love how each figure is rooted in its own spot, yet the group as a whole seems to be wandering. When I look at Gormley's work, I think of Giacometti's sculptures. Both artists have a similar way of using the human figure to talk about isolation, being alone in a big world. I guess art is always like that, talking to itself across time. It doesn't have to mean one thing, it can be a lot of different feelings all at once.
