This is a harpsichord converted to a piano, crafted by Jean Goermans. Notice the ornate floral motifs adorning the black exterior, symbols of prosperity and beauty, echoing ancient Roman friezes where flowers signified growth and renewal. These motifs resurface across centuries, adorning Renaissance textiles and Baroque architecture. The curves and flourishes around the edges carry echoes of the acanthus leaves found in ancient Greek sculpture, representing endurance. Floral and plant-based imagery has been a constant, evolving language in art, reflecting humanity's deep connection to nature. The red lacquer, reminiscent of the Orient, evokes a sense of exoticism and luxury. Through generations and cultures, the piano persists as a symbol of refinement, status, and emotional depth, engaging us with its sound and enduring cultural presence.
