This pattern for a dress was made with pencil on paper by Bessie Forman. It’s all about process, right? I mean, it’s a design for a thing, a dress. But before the dress even exists, there’s this ghost of it, this plan. I love the feeling of paper, the texture. The way the pencil makes its mark so delicately. It’s like a whisper. Look closely and you can see each line, each decision. The artist is mapping something out, but also leaving room for chance, for the unexpected. The way the shapes are boxed off feels so definite, but the text is soft and hazy. It reminds me of the early work of Sol Lewitt, but more…personal? The lines are the same, but the intention is different. Art is like a conversation, everyone riffing off each other, taking ideas in new directions. And in the end, it’s not about the final product, but the journey, the process, the questions we ask along the way.
