Curator: So, this is "Blue" by Cecil King, part of the Tate collection. It's striking, isn't it? Editor: It certainly is. The density of that blue, framed by the almost industrial red...it feels very contained, very deliberate. Curator: King's work often explores perception and spatial relationships through these hard-edged forms. I see it as a doorway, a gateway to...somewhere. Editor: And I'm drawn to the screen-printing process; the precision needed for these clean lines and flat colors. It’s mass production aesthetic turned high art. Curator: Exactly! He takes something quite rigid and, well, makes it sing, somehow. Editor: Well, whether it sings or not, it undoubtedly leaves you pondering the process of its creation and its potential relationship to a wider economic context. Curator: Perhaps. It's a bold statement, either way. Editor: It is that. Makes you consider the labor and materials behind the artwork. Curator: It does make one think. Editor: Absolutely.
