Kazimir Malevich made this painting of a wedding with oils, and it's got this amazing, almost dreamlike quality to it. The colors are really what grab you first, right? These bright, almost childlike reds, greens, and yellows laid down with a directness, no messing, just a real feel for the process. I love how the paint looks, you know? It's not trying to hide anything. You can see the brushstrokes, the texture, all that good stuff. Look at that bride’s dress, like a big, white, slightly goofy shape, punctuated with these red dots. Is that the dress, or a kind of psychic projection of the bride-ness? Malevich is maybe thinking about folk art here, or Chagall, but with a distinct edge. It's like he's saying, yeah, weddings are traditional, but they're also kind of absurd, and beautiful, and full of feeling. It's open to interpretation, that's for sure.
