This is a "Clown still bank" made out of glass by Grapette Products Co. It is incredible, the idea of using such an ephemeral thing like a soda bottle to make something as lasting as a piggy bank; though lasting is maybe not the right word, breakable might be more appropriate. As a painter I know, things get broken! But as a child, I would have loved this, dropping coin after coin into its belly, and seeing them accumulate. I wonder what the artist/designer was thinking when they decided to make the clown's nose the coin slot. Maybe they had kids and knew that the nose was just the right height for a kid to reach? I am always curious about these kinds of practical choices. For me that's where art lives, in the everyday.
