Curatorial notes

Fusun Onur made this installation, Dream of Old Furniture, by repurposing various objects found in her home and studio. It’s a bit like she's taken the ordinary, the forgotten, and given it a new lease on life. There's a whimsical quality to her process. She assembles things, and drapes material, not striving for perfection, but embracing the beauty of the imperfect. I am particularly drawn to the way Onur uses color and texture. Everything is muted, as if dulled by time. There’s this quiet dialogue between the objects, each one hinting at a story, a memory. I can’t help but think of Kurt Schwitters when I look at Onur’s work; both artists shared a similar knack for transforming discarded materials into evocative assemblages. Onur's installation reminds us that art isn't about fixed meanings, but about creating space for possibility.
