Bernard Willem Wierink made this little painting, "Naked woman with mirror and scales," using brown paint with blue accents. Imagine the act of making it: the artist deciding to give the figure a mirror in one hand and scales in the other. What was Wierink thinking about when he made it? The figure, emerging through trial, error, and intuition? I sympathize with artists! They are always in an ongoing conversation and exchange of ideas across time, inspiring one another’s creativity. And in this one, the brown paint is thin with a graphic look and the blue gestures are a bit like party decorations. The painting reminds me of a tarot card somehow... Painting is a form of expression that embraces uncertainty, allowing for multiple interpretations.
