Olivier Debre made Petit vert à la tache rose with what looks like broad sweeping strokes, like he's wiping the paint across the surface, maybe with a big brush, or even a rag. It's mostly this intense green, almost neon, but then there's that little pink spot, like a secret. I wonder what Debre was thinking, laying down all that green. Was he trying to capture a feeling, a memory? It's funny how a color can do that, you know? How it can take you back to a certain place or time. The paint looks pretty thin, almost translucent in places, which makes the surface feel alive, like it's breathing. That one stroke of purple along the edge makes me think of Joan Mitchell, all those wild colors crashing into each other. Painters, we're always in conversation, even across time. We see what others have done and it sparks something in us. We're all just trying to figure out how to make sense of the world, one brushstroke at a time.
