Fragment
Listen to curator's interpretation
Curatorial notes
Oluf Hartmann created this work with ink on paper. The contrasting application of ink, from diluted washes to decisive, almost violent, strokes, evokes a scene both emerging and dissolving before our eyes. Hartmann masterfully employs the tension between representation and abstraction. The left segment presents a chaotic interplay of lines, a thicket of marks that coalesce into an almost recognizable form, perhaps a landscape or a figure in distress. In contrast, the right segment introduces a plane of diluted ink, bisected by a shape that teases the viewer with its ambiguity. The fragment challenges our perception, asking us to question the stability of meaning. Is this a study in contrasts, a meditation on the act of seeing, or a reflection on the transient nature of existence itself? Hartmann invites us to engage with the uncertainty, to find beauty in the unresolved. The work defies fixed interpretation, offering a space for endless contemplation.
