This is a photograph of rock formations and the La Corbière lighthouse in Jersey, taken by Delizy. The rocks, the sea, and the sky are all a similar tone in this image. The lighthouse pierces the landscape, as if trying to pierce the clouds. The sea carries a small sailboat. Though small in size, the photograph’s subject matter feels grand, like it has been taken from a great height. It’s interesting to consider Jersey’s place between England and France. Its position has made it a site of cultural exchange and conflict, resulting in a unique identity that is neither fully British nor French. The lighthouse serves as a beacon, a guiding light in a place of shifting allegiances and cultural tides. Like an assertion of presence amidst a history of ambiguity. The muted tones evoke a sense of nostalgia, inviting us to contemplate the passage of time and the enduring power of place.
