Desmaterialização - Ascensão 1990

Eduardo Nery made this artwork of soft forms and dark cubes with I imagine an airbrush or similar tool. The title, "Desmaterialização - Ascensão," which translates to "Dematerialization - Ascension," really invites you into the artist's thought process, doesn't it? I can imagine Nery thinking about how light can transform objects, almost making them disappear. The warm yellows and oranges around the dark cubes give a sense of movement and energy. It looks like the cubes are ascending, dissolving into the light. Think about how Nery might have built up these layers, carefully controlling the spray to achieve that hazy, dreamlike effect. It reminds me of the Light and Space movement and their experiments with perception. Artists have always been fascinated by the way light interacts with form, it's an ongoing conversation. Nery’s really got me thinking about how something solid can appear so ephemeral.
