Lloyd Broome made this horse weather vane, but we don't know exactly when or where. It's a funny old thing, all angles and edges, nothing really flowing, but it has this great energy. It looks like a wood carving, but it's painted on paper, so it is not a "real" weather vane. I love the color. It’s brown, but not just any brown. More like a reddish, earthy kind of brown that feels warm and familiar. And the gray on the mane and tail is almost metallic, like it's been out in the sun for too long. This horse is caught mid-stride with its front and back legs stretched out. The body is like a blocky shape, and it has this cute little tail that curls up. Broome reminds me a little of Joseph Yoakum, who drew these amazing landscapes from memory, but in his own unique style. Both artists create worlds that are a little bit off, but totally captivating. Anyway, I like that this horse is a bit of a mystery. It's a reminder that art doesn't always have to make sense.
