This weather vane was painted by Dolores Haupt and evokes for me the American rural landscape. I like to imagine Dolores standing outside with her canvas. The horse strides forward, caught mid-gallop. It makes me think about the artist's touch and the way the colours bleed. Look at the brown hues, each with a story to tell of sun-baked earth, wind-swept fields, and distant horizons. The dark patches suggest fleeting shadows, or perhaps, the scars of time etched onto a once pristine surface. I like to imagine that Dolores Haupt painted with a mixture of precision and intuition, capturing not just the form of the horse but the essence of its spirit. It reminds me of Marsden Hartley and his folk art paintings, which are unpretentious, but full of feeling. Artists are always looking at other artists. They're in conversation, you know?
