Koloman Moser made 'The reciprocal of dancers', which is about 25 x 30 cm, using printmaking techniques. The design is all about fluidity and symmetry, using these rhythmic, flowing lines that feel almost musical. It is a beautiful example of how art is not just about the final image, but the whole process of creation, and how the materials themselves can inspire the artist. The deep red and gold create a striking contrast, making the design feel both opulent and grounded. I keep coming back to the figure-like shapes, interspersed with star like shapes - each element is so carefully placed, as though it’s an intuitive dance between control and chance. It’s easy to draw parallels with the work of Gustav Klimt, who also embraced intricate patterns and rich colours, or the later work of Hilma af Klint, who explored pattern and mysticism. It all speaks to how art is really an ongoing dialogue, constantly evolving and open to endless interpretation.
