Editor: Here we have Adrian Ludwig Richter's "Figures from 'Les Fantaisies,' after Callot." It’s giving me major commedia dell'arte vibes, these tiny figures with their flamboyant costumes. What story do you think Richter is trying to tell? Curator: I see a stage buzzing with life, imagined by Richter after Callot. The penmanship is just delicious, isn’t it? It’s almost as though Richter is not just copying Callot but re-staging the play in his own mind, breathing new life into those characters. It makes me wonder, what would it be like to step into one of those costumes? Editor: I never thought about it that way! It's less about replication, more about Richter inhabiting Callot’s world. Curator: Exactly! And perhaps adding a little of his own brand of humor. It’s a conversation across time, wouldn’t you say? Editor: Definitely a conversation I'm glad I eavesdropped on.
