This photo album page titled "Landjahrlager 1935 in Wolmersdorf" was created in 1935 by an anonymous artist. It looks like a collection of black and white photographs, carefully arranged on a gray page with a delicate, deckled edge. When I look at the images, I wonder what the artist was thinking. The photographs feel very staged and deliberate. I get a sense of both order and control: rows of helmets, a stark corridor, and uniformed figures lined up in formation. What stories do these images tell? How do they reflect the atmosphere of the time? The album feels like a dialogue between the anonymous artist and the viewer, across time. Photography gives us one way of seeing, of thinking, and experiencing the world, filtered through the lens. As the artist, I want to take these photos and make them my own, to re-see them, and let them speak to me in a new visual language.
