Editor: So, here we have Giacomo Lauro’s "Kings, Queens, Princes, and Famous Men . . .," it's a print of some kind. There's such detail for something so small! What's your read on this, in terms of its production? Curator: Consider how the matrix was created for this print. The labour involved in the incising, the consumption of materials... It speaks to a specific economy of image production and dissemination, doesn't it? How accessible would this have been, and to whom? Editor: That's a great point. I hadn't considered its accessibility. It makes me think about who controlled the means of representation. Curator: Exactly. And how the circulation of these images shaped perceptions of power and status. A small item, but a complex operation when you examine its means!
