This is Robert Frank’s ‘Embarkation 1’, a photo from a film roll. It's a process laid bare, a series of moments strung together. Frank's work is like a painter's sketchbook—raw, immediate. You see the grain, the sprocket holes, the uneven exposures. It’s not about hiding the process, but revealing it. I am drawn to the physicality of this piece; the texture of the film itself, the high contrast of the monochrome images. It’s a collection of light and shadow. Look at the fifth row, the first frame. The exposure, the way the light flares... it’s a moment of pure photography, a kind of accidental beauty. Frank reminds me a lot of Garry Winogrand, who was also invested in the street. Ultimately, photography is about bearing witness, about capturing the fleeting moments that make up our lives. It’s about embracing the imperfections, the accidents, and the ambiguities that make art so compelling.
