This Bonalumi looks like it was made with shaped canvas or some built up material that was then painted white. The texture is what gets me here, the way the light catches those repeated forms. It’s all about the surface, the physical reality of the thing. Each stroke or shape or ridge casts a slight shadow, creating a play of light and dark that dances across the surface. It feels very process-oriented because it's almost as if you can see the artist's hand in the making, even though there's no paint to speak of. It reminds me a little of Lucio Fontana, another Italian artist who was slashing canvases around the same time. Both of them were interested in pushing the boundaries of painting, breaking through the surface to reveal something more. And like Fontana, Bonalumi embraces ambiguity, inviting us to see the world in new and unexpected ways.
