Editor: Here we have Kim Lim's "Relief," made with printmaking, from the Tate collection. I'm immediately drawn to the texture – it's so subtle. What processes do you think informed her work? Curator: I see a keen engagement with the act of creation itself. Consider the repetitive mark-making involved in printmaking, the labour invested in each individual piece. How does that repetitive process affect its perceived value? Editor: That's interesting. The labor contrasts with the delicate aesthetic, doesn't it? Curator: Precisely. It challenges the typical associations we make between 'high art' and mass production. It almost democratizes it, in a way. Editor: I hadn't considered it that way. Thanks! Curator: A pleasure. Thinking about the means of production can open up so many avenues for interpretation.
