Manfred Kielnhofer created this photograph titled "Modern and Contemporary Photography Circle of Life Water Reflection mirror" using photography. Kielnhofer subtly critiques art historical tropes by creating a mirror image through the use of water, which has the effect of distorting and enhancing the themes of identity. The subjects in the photograph are posed in such a way that their bodies become a part of the environment, their arms barely touching above them forming the titular circle. This piece emphasizes the cycle of life in its purest form, but by doing so asks us to consider the place of women within that framework. He once said that as an artist, he always tries to, “bring something new to the world” in his art, and this work definitely fits the bill. By reflecting each other the subjects become one, but their unique characteristics remain as a reminder of their individuality.
