This photo album, by David Vermeulen, holds pictures of Germany, Den Haag and Scheveningen. The mottled purple of the cover creates a soft, dreamy background, like a faded memory. The gold lettering of the word "Album" swirls across the center, beckoning you into a world of captured moments. But what really grabs me is the border. It’s a delicate, yet geometric pattern, almost like a carefully constructed maze. It is a frame, a structure. Like a painter deciding where to place the horizon line, the artist is choosing how we enter the space of the image. I imagine that these weren't just snapshots, but carefully curated glimpses into a life, into a journey. The texture of the album itself tells a story of handling, of being held and shared. It reminds me a little of the work of Gerhard Richter, who also played with the way that photographs can blur the line between reality and memory. It’s not just about seeing, it’s about feeling.
