Curator: Let's examine "Ringing Filter" by Anthony Benjamin. The Tate holds this print, its dimensions roughly 991 by 686 millimeters. Editor: I am immediately drawn to its vibrant color palette and graphic quality. It’s bold and somewhat disorienting. Curator: Benjamin's work frequently incorporated biomorphic forms and hard-edged abstraction. Considering its title, could this piece be filtering visual language to process a moment in time? Editor: Perhaps, but I'm more interested in the process. The layering of shapes and colors suggests a screen-printing technique, democratizing the image through reproducibility. Curator: I think there may be a social commentary here, too, perhaps on how we selectively perceive information through filters of power. Editor: It’s certainly a piece that invites discussion about the relationship between art making, labor, and visual culture. Curator: Absolutely. It makes me consider the cultural implications of perception and how it relates to social and political ideologies. Editor: Well, for me, it emphasizes the material processes behind image-making, rather than any singular interpretation.
