This painting, *SEXY*, was made by Cricorps, but I don't know when or with what, exactly. What I see is a process of applying simplified forms with confidence. The colour palette is vibrant, yet the tones are muted, adding to its complexity. The flat application of paint emphasises the artificiality of the scene. The figure is outlined with bold black lines, which have a kind of brutal elegance. It’s interesting how the artist uses black in this way, it feels kind of Matisse, and kind of anti-Matisse at the same time. Look how the leg closest to us is defined by these confident strokes, it's not necessarily about being anatomically correct, it's about making a statement. This reminds me of Elizabeth Murray's paintings, which also embraced bold colors and unconventional forms. Like Murray, Cricorps isn't afraid to challenge our perceptions and invite us to engage with art on a visceral level. Art, after all, isn't about finding easy answers but about embracing the journey of exploration and self-discovery.
