This is a poster for ‘The Liquidator’ by Robert Peak, and it’s a real riot of collage and pop sensibilities! It looks like a bunch of photographs cut up and mashed together, creating this playful sense of depth and movement. Look closely and you can see all these different textures – the smooth skin of the actors, the patterned clothes, even the bold typography. Everything overlaps and butts up against something else in this really visually exciting way. The jacket covered in guns is so cool! Peak really embraces ambiguity. It’s not about perfection, it’s about capturing the energy of the film. I always find something new every time I look at it. It reminds me a little of Richard Hamilton, especially his interest in the aesthetics of mass media. But while Hamilton is more formal, Peak is just wild! What a poster!
