This Christmas card by an anonymous artist is a small, heartfelt gesture, probably made with simple drawing tools. The colour palette is super restrained - red, yellow and black, with the cream of the card itself. I love the economy of means! The image is a kind of hanging lantern with a little door, or maybe it's a stylised Christmas tree ornament? The lines are thick and wobbly, not precise, which gives it a real handmade feel. Check out the three little red circles at the bottom, like cheerful baubles. This use of recurring shapes, that act as a frame within the frame, remind me of Klee’s playful sense of space. It’s a celebration of making do with what you have, and turning out something charming nonetheless. This piece reminds us that art doesn't always need to be slick or polished to be meaningful. It's in the spirit of sharing that we find its true value.
