August Macke made *People at the Blue Lake* with oil on canvas. It’s all about shapes and how they speak to each other, right? I imagine Macke building up the scene, letting these figures emerge from the chromatic ground. The paint looks pretty thin, stained into the canvas, not too fussy. I mean, just look at that tree trunk, painted with a simple gesture, but it really sings. You know, it’s so interesting to think about what Macke might have been after. Was he thinking about color theory, or was he just feeling the vibe of the lake? It kinda reminds me of some Matisse, especially with the simplified forms. All these painters are riffing off each other, don’t you think? Like a big jam session across time! Anyway, this work makes me wanna go play with some paint, no overthinking, just doing.
