Curatorial notes

Andreas Gursky created this photograph, titled *Untitled III*, capturing an expansive view of seemingly barren land. Gursky’s large-format photography often frames subjects through a wide lens. Here, the earth's surface dominates the scene, presenting a landscape stripped of immediate markers of human presence. It might evoke thoughts of environmental degradation or forgotten histories. What does it mean to see the land depicted in such a way? Gursky's photographs do not offer a moral perspective. This deliberate ambiguity allows the viewer to confront their own feelings about the subjects depicted. Is it possible that in this stark landscape, the viewer can find a sense of place, or a connection to the environment? Gursky challenges us to question what we value, and how we relate to the world around us.
