David Michael Hinnebusch created *Hots Rush In* with mixed media on paper. What do you think Hinnebusch was thinking when he made this work? I imagine him circling his subject, trying to get it down, the black lines scratching at the surface like he's almost upset that this thing exists in front of him. The angular lines almost seem to trap the pink figure. It’s like a cage, a container. The background is a wash of translucent green and blue, while the figure itself is rendered in fleshy pinks, the paint appearing thin, almost translucent, as if the figure is emerging from the ground. This reminds me a little of the expressionistic figuration of someone like Francis Bacon. I really admire how artists like Hinnebusch allow for so much to be unresolved. It’s this tentativeness, this embrace of ambiguity, that makes the work so alive. Like one big, beautiful question mark.
