This photograph by Carolina Onnen captures a sunny day with friends in Hilversum, maybe with a simple camera. I can imagine the light filtering through the trees, casting pale shadows on the figures gathered there. The photograph is faded and full of light, and its stillness makes me think about what it would have been like to be there. There are two people named Ril and Clemens on the tennis court along the Utrechtseweg. What were they talking about? What was the pace and tempo of the day? Did they have any idea they were being immortalized? Onnen, a painter and photographer, finds a meeting point between these two. It’s through this kind of exchange and exploration that art continues to evolve, with each artist adding their unique voice to the ongoing conversation. Thinking and feeling through an image might be just what art asks us to do.
