Lech Jankowski made "ku rtyna nad morzem" with paint and a surface; the paint is thick, almost crusty. The palette is largely blues and purples. Looking at it, I imagine Jankowski starting with some kind of ground, maybe even an old painting, and then just layering on these daubs of color, letting the painting emerge from the process itself. It's like he's building up a surface that's both about the sea, and about the act of looking and feeling. I really dig how the texture becomes almost as important as the colors themselves. It reminds me of some of the early abstract expressionists, who were also trying to capture a feeling, a moment, rather than just depicting a scene. Each little dab of paint, each stroke, feels like a little decision, a little bit of Jankowski’s thought process made visible. It’s all about touch and physicality, and how that translates into something that resonates emotionally. Artists like Jankowski show us how painting is an ongoing conversation, an exchange of ideas, and a form of expression.
