Morris Louis made this veil painting, Dalet Kaf, at some point in his unfortunately short life. It’s a whoosh of color! Look at the way he stained the canvas with these translucent colors; it's like the paint just seeped in, becoming one with the fabric. I like to imagine Louis in his studio, wrestling with the canvas, letting the colors drip and flow. It's like he's not just painting, but collaborating with the paint itself, coaxing it into these incredible forms. See how the colors at the top are denser than the lighter colors at the bottom. It reminds me of Helen Frankenthaler’s soak-stain paintings. They’re all part of this conversation about color, surface, and the very act of painting. It’s a conversation that never really ends, with each artist adding their own voice, their own splash of color. It's a beautiful, messy, ongoing experiment, where the possibilities are endless.
