Die zweite Jahresgabe des Kreises graphischer Kunstler und Sammler Possibly 1922

This cover for Die zweite Jahresgabe des Kreises graphischer Kunstler und Sammler is like a party of K's, all dressed up in their leafy, geometric best. I can imagine the artist, or designer, carefully carving out this pattern, thinking about how it repeats, how each letter nestles next to its neighbor. You know, it makes me think about my own process, how I layer and scrape and push paint around until something unexpected emerges. There’s a real physicality to this, like they were wrestling with the material, coaxing it into submission. The brown background feels earthy and solid, but the off-white pattern gives it a kind of whimsical charm. It reminds me of some textile designs, or even wallpaper, where the same motif dances across the surface. This piece feels part of a larger conversation about design, about how we make our world beautiful and meaningful, one mark at a time. And how lucky are we to be invited in.
