Agnes Karlin made this watercolour, *Wine Glass*, on paper and gave us something quite ordinary. It's the kind of wine glass you find in an old cupboard. The glass is green and casts a dark shadow on the paper. I like to think about the artist carefully filling each part with color, one section at a time. It reminds me of the patient and reflective process of observational drawing. Sometimes, just looking at something closely, you can have new thoughts about all sorts of things, right? The way Karlin has painted it, with such attention, makes me think of Giorgio Morandi, who was also interested in rendering the familiar objects that surrounded him. Artists just keep looking and copying and exchanging ideas. It’s like an endless conversation. Each brushstroke is a little whisper adding to the story.
