Biography
William Unger (1837-1932) was a German artist known for his detailed black and white engravings. Born in Hannover, Unger is famous for his work in the Neo-Renaissance style, which drew heavily on the art of the Italian Renaissance. He was particularly adept at capturing the intricate details of drapery and human anatomy, as seen in his engravings of works by other artists, such as Peter Paul Rubens. Unger's work was widely celebrated in his lifetime, and his engravings are still admired for their technical mastery and artistic sensibility.
