Biography
Valerio Corte (1527-1585) was an Italian painter and draughtsman who is best known for his drawings. This drawing depicts the martyrdom of Saint Sebastian, a popular subject in Renaissance art. Corte’s detailed, almost anatomical, depiction of the archers’ muscular bodies and the dynamic composition showcases his skill in rendering the human figure.
