Biography
Utagawa Kunisada, also known as Toyokuni III, was a prominent Japanese ukiyo-e artist born in Edo (now Tokyo) in 1786. He is best known for his woodblock prints depicting actors, kabuki theatre scenes, beautiful women (bijin-ga) and historical figures. Kunisada's works are characterized by their bold colors, dynamic compositions, and expressive lines, which capture the energy and drama of the subjects. He was a prolific artist, producing thousands of prints during his career, making him a highly influential figure in the development of ukiyo-e art.
